Japan is getting a re-release of David Lynch's Dune. It is going to be the original 137 min. version and is anamorphically remastered from a new print! Perhaps this means that a remastered R1 edition is in the works, but probably without any special features (due to Lynch's disgust of this project). It is now available to pre-order at CDJapan Or, if you're going to use Amazon Japan, the catalog # is PIBF-7387

Lynch doesn't like DVD extras at all, along with Luc Besson 'cause they "spoil the magic" and I agree.

Sigh, if only it were a widescreen version of the Smithee cut it'd be worth it to me

Noticed it's only 2.0 sound, probably PCM if I know the Japanese habits

You do lose some "magic" by not watching a film in a real movie theatre with a crowd of people. In any case I disagree. Behind-the-scenes documentaries and commentaries enhance the movie watching experience for me & make it so much more enjoyable. So I'm terribly thankful that other film makers don't have the kind of attitude that Lynch does about this subject.

Yes, the only thing Lynch is confirmed to hate is chapter stops.

We can still hope for a Dune Ultimate Edition that makes everyone happy
