I have a bunch of friends relocating to San Diego. When shopping for new houses, I advised them to try and find a house that can get Over The Air HDTV.

Then they asked "How do we tell if the house can get OTA HDTV?"

The real estate agents are typically clueless. How, while running around looking at for sale homes can you tell if the home could get HDTV? Look at the near by homes for antennas?

I'd use www.antennaweb.org to find the direction/distance to the OTA towers, and then when they are on the property check to see if there are any obstructions in the line of sight in the direction of the towers.
You can also ask local HT groups; I know that here in Atlanta there is a site with different HDTV owners who post their locations, equipment, and how their reception is.
