Hi there!
I'm brand new here and looking for a bit of experience in putting together a future home theater.
I'm selling my current house and buying one this spring...an amazing basement is on my MUST HAVE list because I would love to have a great space to entertain and have my home theater.
I currently have a 90" projector screen...and want to get a BETTER one than I currently have - I don't have HD on my current one.
Anyway....my BIGGEST current question is for the audio:
I recently got out of the mobile DJ business and I have a lot of pro audio gear that I simply REFUSE to sell...just can't part with it! LOL I would love to be able to use (at least the speakers) for my new system.
I have:
2 QSC K8
2 QSC K12
2 QSC KW181
2 QSC KSubs (the only speakers that I will most likely sell)

I KNOW that's an unreasonable amount of power for a home theater...but having as much as I could ever possibly dream of is nice...and the sound of these speakers are amazing.....for music anyway!

SO...will I be able to incorporate these into a home theater....and what do I need to purchase to be able to do this?

Thanks!

Hi Tom,
I wouldn't say that's too much gear for a home theatre. Take a look at the specs on my HT. I'm using 100% commercial theatre speakers, amps, and processors and would not change a thing. My theatre seating space is roughly 14' wide by 20' deep.

New specs of our home screening room.

Projectors: 35mm Kinoton PK60D/Epson 5010
Lamphouse: Strong Super LumeX 2000 watt xenon
Processors: Dolby CP-500..DTS-6.. Dolby SA-10 EX
Amps: QSC DCA1644 4 channel (1), QSC USA 900 2 channels (3)
Speakers for 7.2 system: JBL 3678's L-C-R (3), JBL 4645C's 18" SUBS (2) JBL 8330's SURROUNDS (6)
Screen: Harkness Matt White 1.6 Gain 12X6 feet, mini-perf
Monitor: Kelmar -MS-100
Oppo 103 BD Player

Thanks for the reply!
Well, even if it WAS "unreasonable" in most peoples minds...it wouldn't stop me from "going big" anyway! :)

So...what do you use to get the surround to your speakers? My speakers are all powered and do not require an external amp. Surround sound systems (amps/receivers) generally utilize passive speakers which they supply the power to. I don't require a powered system...so, how do you get the proper surround sound-channel to each respective speaker?

Tom my Dolby CP500 processor sends the discrete channels to the power amps. So I have a total of 8 channels feeding the amps.. left, center, right, left surround, right surround, subs, left rear and right rear. The two left surrounds are wired in series as are the two right surrounds, Both subs are also in series with each other. Everything else is wired one amp channel out to one speaker.

@DFurr Your setup sounds amazing. I would love to see some pics if you're so inclined. Mine are available via my sig.

@Doublestorm if you’re still in the research phase, it would help to know your budget goals. It sounds like you want a separated: processor and separate amps. A good 120”+ screen. And maybe even you’re ready to get a 4K projector.
