My in-laws recently got a 32" lcd flatscreen and I had to hook it up for them. I sent my father in-law to the cable office to trade his standard def box for a HD box.

They gave him the box and a HDMI cable. The tv came with an HDMI cable.

Hooked it up and the box went through its boot sequence. I needed to call the cable co. to have the box reset over the lines. It worked great for the first 15 mins. The HD channels looked awesome.

Then, we started getting a garbled signal and nothing but static was displayed. The TV then switched off to a blue screen that said no signal and not supported.

Switched cables, switched HDMI inputs, rebooted box all with the same result. I even called and had the box reset again.

When I attached the rg6 cable from the wall to the tv, I did get a picture on all the basic channels.

What could be the issue?

Bad box?

Weak signal? The in-laws house is set back from the road approx 1,200 ft.

He's going to exchange the box for a different one today.
