Hi All,
Today I decided to write a tool which totally eliminates the contents of files from one's hard drive (ie, for sensitive data removal, etc...)
There are tools out there that do this (ie, Blackboard File Wipe) but I find those tools to be buggy at best, not to mention that they are not free.
So basically I wrote something very similar to those tools. You supply file names to the application, and it writes over the contents of those files several times, and then deletes the file. Perhaps many people aren't aware of this, but simply "deleting" a file from your system and emptying it out of the recycle bin doesn't really rid your hard drive of the file or its contents.
Originally I just wrote it for personal use but I figured that other folks might find it useful as well. Feel free to download it at:
www.geocities.com/stevenkrawczyk/AXEFile.zip
Of course, it's completely free and uncrippled. Also included in the ZIP file is documentation in PDF form.
If you download this, give it a try and let me know what you think.
The app was coded in C and compiled with VC++ 6.0.
