Found the new AVC-2890 at the Denon Japan website. It has the 3rd generation 200MHz SHARC processor with AL24 processing, 100w x 7, DPL2x, 100MHz video bandwidth, and RS232c port. It will be available at 110,000 yen (US$998.37) in Japan in late May 2004. Looks like it will be marketed as AVR-2805 in the US:

Nice find. It looks like the 2805 will feature a larger readout just like the 3805. Nice clean look on that receiver. The only sad part is that it looks like they've included one of their crappy looking (and performing) remotes once again.

Looks very similar to the 3805, with the auto eq, the new 200Mhz SHARC processor, and accommodations for 3 component inputs. Differences look like slightly less power, no DDSC, AL24 only on the front 2 channels (like the 3803), and a remote like the 2803. I'm sure there are some others too:D.

That's right, GarAbl. The AL24 processing is only for the front 2 channel, DACs used are 96kHz/24bit, there is no DDSC, and the remote is more like the 2803's.

The new 2805 also has automatic room EQ (needs a microphone), video up-conversion to component video, pure direct mode, corss-over setting at 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 150, 200, 250Hz.

Looks like this new Denon will be giving the Yamaha 1400 a run for the money :D.

Oh sure, I just picked up a 3805 because the lower-priced Denons (and Yamahas) did not have three component inputs...

This'll be a couple hundred bucks cheaper probably.

Bob,

Good question. It could take a couple of months before we see this receiver. Plus, when it hits the streets, expect to see MSRP for a bit of time before some discounting gets applied.

With that being the case, I still think going for a 3805 is a better move because you can probably find one for the same price as the 2805 - when it arrives.

In fact, another interesting question will be when will Denon upgrade the much dated AVR-4802R as well... since the 380x and 280x lines have been updated twice in the last two years, or Denon is going to drop the 480x line just like Yamaha dropping their 3x00 line to keep the distance between the flagship model and the mid-range models!!!

with included DENON microphone DM-S305

Optional on the 3805, standard on the 2805. Gonna be a few angry 3805 owners who have to pay $65 USD for it.

Audio One said end of may/start of June.

Do you guys think this would make a really good pre/pro based on the previous 28xx series? I want a Lexicon MC-1 but am having trouble finding a good seller. So I'm thinking of getting the 2805 now and selling it in 2-3 months when I find a good Lex seller.

Ned:

Why not get a 2803 and use that if you are only going to have it for a few months. I just got one and I find it to be a great receiver.
