It's all so complicated! Are they just trying to confuse everyone so you'll keep buying the same things over and over.
That's not right.

I hope someone publishes a comprehensive guide to what's what with all these sets (and maintains the list for future updates), so that other people out there can accumulate all the episodes with the least amount of duplication possible.

The information is all probably on this forum between this thread and the other one, but it makes my brain hurt to even think of trying to go back through each and every post.

Maybe an update-able "sticky" that Brian (or some other expert on the subject) could edit post #1 of periodically to keep it current and easily accessible?

Ok, I've finished watching the 22 never released shows. Well, the news is not good. All but two of the episodes have been edited. Here is the list with the running times for those episodes. The shows that were on the Best of Tim Conway disc are in bold. Also, remember that I use a different numbering system than what Time Life uses. Show numbers begin with the one or two digit season number and then the two digit episode number. This list is in chronological order by air date. This is how they are ordered within the set as well. The final show is a separate disc and it is, logically, listed last.

Show #125, March 4, 1968 (edited): 42:40
Show #130, May 13, 1968 (edited): 43:11
Show #205, October 14, 1968 (edited): 38:52
Show #209, November 18, 1968 (edited): 38:36
Show #305, September 29, 1969 (edited): 42:15
Show #312, December 8, 1969 (edited): 36:58
Show #409, October 19, 1970 (edited): 45:37
Show #420, February 1, 1971 (edited): 37:50
Show #423, March 1, 1971 (edited): 39:10
Show #511, November 17, 1971: 50:45
Show #513, December 1, 1971 (edited): 30:35
Show #618, February 3, 1973 (edited): 47:20
Show #811, December 7, 1974 (edited): 36:34
Show #906, September 13, 1975 (edited): 38:25
Show #913, December 20, 1975 (edited): 36:42
Show #1013, December 25, 1976 (edited): 47:55
Show #1015, February 5, 1977 (edited): 31:40
Show #1023, March 19, 1977 (edited): 45:45
Show #1109, November 19, 1977 (edited): 41:45
Show #1112, December 11, 1977 (edited): 36:53
Show #1120, February 26, 1978 (edited): 42:25
Show #1124, March 29, 1978: 1:38:32

You mean to tell me that show #513 had 20 minutes carved out of it?!?! Wow! I'm guessing all musical numbers?

No, all those listed above are unreleased, save the four episodes that were on The Tim Conway release. My understanding is that the "cheaper" (yeah, right) version of this new set includes 33 episodes, 22 unreleased and 11 previously released.

Unless I'm missing something, there has been no bold claim that the episodes in this new package are unedited.

While I would without a doubt prefer unedited episodes, when a release like this cherry-picks episodes (as opposed to being a supposed complete representation of an entire series), I actually have less of an issue/problem. (This latest Carol Burnett release reminds me of The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour releases from Time Life or some of the earlier Johnny Carson releases.) We know we're not getting the full series anyway.

But if an eight-season complete box set of a sitcom has even one "syndication cut" episode, that drives me mad.

And all that money for just four unreleased episodes in this latest venture? I'll pass then.

Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse anyone.

The four episodes in bold are on the single disc release of The Best of Tim Conway.

The 11 disc set that Time Life is offering has 22 previously unreleased episodes, including the 4 from the Tim Conway disc. There are a total of 33 episodes on this new set. 11 have been previously released. If you get the 60 episode set. The second set in the larger set has an additional 27 episodes. All 27 of those episodes have been previously released.

Yep. Every scrap of music is gone from that episode. Every single bit.

The way these episodes were edited is kind of strange. Most of the time Carol's duet with the guest star is gone. Some times the guest stars solo number is gone. Almost all of the musical finales are gone. There is even one episode, November 18, 1968, that had a sketch edited out. Not for music but probably for PC reasons. Carol and Sid Caesar portray a Japanese film stars being interviewed by Harvey during the VIP sketch. The March 4, 1968 episode edited out another sketch. This one has Carol and Imogene Coca as female astronauts. Not sure why that got edited.

While I do not like the edited versions of these episodes, I would take the remaining 120 unreleased episodes in edited form just to get the rest of the series. Sadly, with the release of the final show I'm guessing that this is the very last set that we will be seeing for this series. I'm so glad that I taped Carol Burnett & Friends episodes to get more stuff from seasons 6-10.

I have a document like that, but sadly it isn't in a form that can be uploaded to this board. I'd be happy to send it to anyone that wants it. Just PM me. In the meantime, here is a list by season of all released episodes. This list does not show which episodes are edited versions nor what set or company (Time Life or Columbia House) released the episode. I do have that information, but again it's in a form that can't be uploaded to this board.

I got the full set and it arrived today. I checked the outtakes and they are the same. It is the exact same disc (just a different label) from the list episodes collection. They did not even bother changing the DVD menu. I did not look at the other DVDs but I suspect I will see the same thing.
