I think it's a great choice. I loved "Road to Perdition" and I think Mendes will deliver a solid Bond flick. Mendes will be the first Oscar-winning director to helm a Bond flick.

I just heard that the PTB are fast-tracking James Bond 23, despite earlier reports that the new movie was being placed on ice. According to Slashfilm, the earlier reports were false and that the movie is being fast-tracked for production.

No matter what their turning Bond into, these last two films are among the best (if not the best) in the entire franchise. I look very forward to the next film.

CASINO ROYALE was very good, but QUANTUM OF SOLACE was a massive disappointment IMHO. I really hope that the next film is more like Bond and less like Bourne.

Enough of the origin stuff ... it was fun for one movie, and really tired by the second.

He better be full-on, prime 007 by this film, with the cars, one-liners, martinis, and ass kicking all down pat.

I don't really care about M being a woman, not like Bond really listens to her anyway (nor would he if she was a he, lol).

Quantum of Solace was a perfectly fine "minor" Bond film, but it definitely felt like the sort of thing he'd be up to between real movies. Hopefully Bond 23 will involving taking Quantum head-on.

I hope Craig comes back, he made a fantastic Bond in his too films. I prefer them to most of the series, including the Connery ones. It was grim stuff, but believable grim stuff. And I like grim Bond over goofy Bond. If they go back to goofy, or worse, try to get more Bourne like, I'll be disappointment.

I'd like to see Clive Owen as Bond...........but grim or goofy, Craig or Lazenby I don't care as long as they nix the shaky cam crap so I can make out WTF is going on during the action scenes.

I wonder... is marrying Tracy di Vicenzo in this Bond's future or is this an alternate timeline? Will they eventually remake OHMSS or just keep rebooting the series? [glances at Zack]

Clive Owen would be amazing as Bond. A lot of people, me included, were hoping for him when we first learned about Casino Royale.

And I think think QOS is a underrated movie.

I think that ship has sailed. He would be 48 by the time his first movie came out, making him easily the oldest "starter Bond." And if that report is true about them focusing on a 2 year- gap for the next decade, then they're probably wanting someone they'll be happy with for the long haul.

I think next to his schedule, that's probably what will work against Craig the most. He's in a very Timothy Dalton situation.

Bloomberg is reporting that MGM is planning to go ahead with Bond 23 after bankruptcy filing and the Spyglass deal is finalized.

New James Bond films may be released every second year starting in November 2012, MGM said. It aims to own 50 percent of Bond 23, due out that year, with an equal partner paying all of the production costs, it said. Later Bond movies would be wholly owned and funded by MGM, the company said.

Actually, it's more complicated than that. The rest is here:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-11-03/metro-goldwyn-mayer-files-bankruptcy-after-rejecting-lions-gate-takeover.html

I like the idea of a new Bond film every two years.
I do hope they will be better films than the last two, cheerier and more civilized, and not agenda-driven.
If MGM becomes the sole owner and funder of the Bond films, that means EON producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael J. Wilson would be moved out -- OUT! -- of the franchise, which can only be a good and positive step, and long-over due.

I would not want to see him as Bond. Sure he'd be good but his too popular. If they need to pick a new Bond I hope it's some no-name actor. Someone none of us have heard of.
