Got a new Summer/Fall catalog from Best Buy yesterday. Included five coupons for use during 5 weeks in July and August. Nothing to get overly excited about (i.e. no movie coupons). There was one for 10% off a DVD player and I've been looking to upgrade recently, but with my employment status being questionable at the moment I'll probably put it off awhile. [IMG]

Not to hijack your thread, but I got a promo from Best Buy for their new frequent buyers' card-- 100 points for every $ you spend there, and a $5 gift card for every 12,500 points....at my rate, I could end up with quite a few gift cards. The deal is $9.95, but like heroin the first dose is free if you use the coupon they're mailing out.

Seems a few people are getting these recently.

Wouldn't it make more sense to simply make it $1 = 1 point and 125 points gets a $5 GC? What's the point of multiplying everything by 100?

Don't buy the card for $10 for a few weeks.

If you get the coupons you're likely to get 1 if not 2 or 3 of these things in the mail. I received 2 actual cards and a coupon for a third in the mail this week.

CRAP! I just got back from Best Buy and I totally forgot to use the card (despite specifically putting it in my wallet immediately upon opening the "Rewards" package). [IMG]

Fortunately I only bought "Shanghai Knights" for $14.99 so it wasn't a huge amount of points anyway. [IMG]

Anyone have an extra coupon for a free Rewards card? If so, if you'd be willing to send it to me, I'd greatly appreciate it. E-mail me if you can do it. Thanks.

I don't think that Best Buy's Reward Zone Membership is a great deal in and of itself (4% discount - $5.00 off of $125.00 - and that's if you get the membership fee waived). But, it can be a nice little bump if you shop at BB anyway (i.e. because David Lambert's Weekly Round-Up has informed you that BB has the best pricing on new DVD releases).

BB tested / piloted this program in Southern California beginning last July. (A funny aside: I was vacationing in Northern California last August and whipped out my RZ Card for a BB purchase. The cashier and the supervisor she summoned had no clue - they must have thought I was trying to pull some scam. I had to explain the program to them.) Anyway, I have used the RZ card for the past year. My first year's membership was free and I just received a free renewal for this year.

    Some tips / hints:

Over the past year BB had some special offers and promos for their RZ Members - i.e. double / bonus points on specified purchases, bonus points on top of any purchase, etc. So, watch for those it you are a member.

You will receive 5,000 bonus points the first time you make a purchase (including the purchase of the RZ Card - if you didn't get a free card).

Be careful - this is a B&M deal only. BestBuy.com purchases don't qualify for points.

You can earn a one-time bonus of 2,500 points per membership when you submit your valid email address. Just edit your profile at: http://rewardzoneonline.bestbuy.com

I realize the first year's free, but I will NOT pay $10 to buy stuff at any store. Just another way for them to get their hand in your pocket.

I was looking at their Sunday ad and they had the point values listed right beside prices. I guess if you are the person that buys 5 DVD's a year from BB, this program is not for you but if you are like most people here and buy 20 DVD's a year or more, this should work out well for you. If you were planning on buying a TV anyway and BB has a good price, you can get quite a few $5 certificates at the rates they are giving.

That's why I avoid all types of "reward" programs you have to pay for. I belonged to the Waldenbooks program for a couple years until I realized how much you have to spend before you get any worthwhile savings results.

If these stores are really interested in giving "rewards," just give them. It's not really a reward if you have to pay for it.

I'll probably use the free year, but I doubt I'll renew when it's over.

BTW - I think the listing in the cataloge for the Jerry Maguire DVD is wrong - it should be the barebones one for $9.99. I went to get the Sp.Ed. today, which rang up at $22.99 - showed her the ad & bingo!

Jump on it while you can...

Well if you buy anything large, it does pay off. I got the new Panasonic dvd recorder so that is 63000 points, so you can say another $25 in gift certificates.
