This show should be called Festival of Nostalgia...just saying...
Oh Hell YES!! I'm super excited to watch this on our new 135" screen. Gonna be fabulous.
Trailer looks great. Can't wait till July. Yes, the gap between last season and this is a long one, but I for one will be happy for a "Summer" theme this time out. Keeping the quality high is the most important thing.
Is it full of eighties nostalgia? Yes. But the story itself (so far at least) works gangbusters, so 1980s Indiana is more of a backdrop than a central focus.
This season is set in the summer of '85: Live Aid, New Coke, Back to the Future, and Nintendo. George Michael gave us "Careless Whisper", Madonna gave us "Like A Virgin", Tears For Fears gave us "Everybody Wants To Rule The World", Dire Straights gave us "Money for Nothing", and a-ha graced the world with "Take On Me". So in some ways, it's a more stereotypically eighties year than the prior two were.
I'm a big fan of the Arri Alexa camera, but this show is proof positive that RED cameras, used to their full potential, and make some really dazzling images.
I love the look of this season, from what we see in the trailer. It's fairly easy to create an ominous atmosphere in fall or winter. It's much harder to create an ominous atmosphere in the sunny warm months of summer, and I'm excited that the show is embracing the challenge.
One more promotional photo I forgot to include in my last post (click to enlarge):
New Trailer ("Summer in Hawkins"):
And new character posters (click to enlarge):
Coke is bringing back New Coke for a limited time as a cross-marketing promotion with "Stranger Things 3":
It's a fun idea, but I hope it's not a backdoor to advertising coming to Netflix.
What do you mean?
The first sentence of your post says it’s a cross marketing Promotion.
I mean, first it's cross-promotion. Then it's product placement. And before long, there are glorified advertisements built into the episodes themselves.
I’m definitely picking up a few cases!
My memory of “New Coke” was that it tasted like Coke with a little Pepsi mixed in.
I’m curious to see how it matches up to that memory after 34 years.
As for the show, they are right that the whole “New Coke” fiasco was a pretty big thing back in the thick of the Cola Wars in ‘85. It would be weird not to have it featured if this is set in the Summer of ‘85. It’d be just as weird if they didn’t reference Back to the Future.
What I’ve read is this will only available through Coke’s web site starting this Thursday
5 p est this Thursday at cokestore.com
It tasted like Pepsi to me.
It tasted like Pepsi to me too and I’m sure that was the intention
Diet Coke is basically the New Coke formula with artificial sweetener instead of sugar if memory serves.
The outrage over New Coke back in the 80s wasn't the taste, it was that the original formula was being retired. Maybe it was always planned to bring it back and maybe it wasn't, but people objected to this thing they loved being taken away.
Right. It was a PR disaster and only lasted 79 days before they brought “Coca-Cola Classic” back. It’s funny, at the time it seemed like it was much longer.
Interestingly, Coke was behind Pepsi in the Cola Wars. After this happened, Coke pulled ahead and basically stayed there.
Shocker. The Coke website has crashed before the onsale time for New Coke.
The site works now, a little.
The promo is you have to buy two bottles of specialty coke and you get two cans of New Coke thrown in.
