Good day!

Being a Firefox user I haven't taken the time to update with fixes to watch the Instant movies on Netflix but just getting it on the Xbox 360 means I want to take advantage of it. Not a bad amount of movies to watch with reasonable success.

Anyway, a TON of BBC TV shows are on there but it seems like most of them (if not all) are going off the service on 12/1/08! I was hoping to catch up on a bunch of old Tom Baker Dr. Who and some Red Dwarf but looks like that wasn't meant to be. I know why Sony backed out of it (on the Xbox, anyway) but why the BBC shows? Anyone know? My Google skills must not be up to snuff and I can't find the reason why.

Thanks!

The license for some of their movies expires. Some movies are only available for like a month at times. They'd like to have everything available but they have to go by the content provider's rules.

I signed up for a 2-week trial of NetFlix because of the new Xbox 360 support.

I'll say this: in terms of functionality it's terrific. The quality is great, I can sit at my computer and add a title and turn my head and see it pop up on my screen via my 360. There's no stuttering or buffering, the quality is actually more consistent than watching through a cable box. They always seem to pixelate or break up.

On the other hand, the selection is terrible. The ability to stream movies to your 360 loses its appeal when it takes 20 minutes to find something that's remotely watchable. Granted, I'm a DVD buyer and it's rare that I don't own something I want to watch but even so, the selection is pitiful.

I'll be canceling my subscription at the end of my 2 weeks, though I'd be willing to join if they improved their library.

Also, in spite of the quick queuing via a PC it would be nice to actually browse via the 360.

I wouldn't worry too much. The same thing happened back around April 1 and the license was renewed at the last minute. This is, unfortunately, something the BBC is fond of doing in regards to even their own programming.

Resurrecting a year-old thread isn't exactly the best of first posts on HTF, y'know.
