Greetings All,
I'm trying to help my boss sort something out with his home theater. He has a Samsung UN55ES6500 with the Netfilx App. We're trying to get the sound from the TV to his AV receiver (Sony STR-DH520) while watching Netfilx. The current configuration is the Directv box and the BluRay player are connected to the Sony via HDMI, which is then connected to the TV via HDMI. We need to get the audio to go in the other direction while streaming.
There is a 3.5mm and an optical audio out on the back of the tv. Since the TV and receiver are a good distance apart with a wall between them (probably a 25-30' run when all is said and done), I wanted to "know" what would work before we started snaking cable. I called Samsung twice. The first person told me that the TV didn't support external speakers when streaming. I found that hard to believe, so I called back. The second person told me that it *might* support it with the optical cable, but not the 3.5mm. That sounded even stranger, so I figured I'd see if any of y'all had any first hand knowledge.
Can it be done? If so, does it matter which format we use? If it has to be optical, can I even get a cable that long? Or does anyone make a "wireless" audio cable (i.e. a transmitter that attaches to the back of the TV and a reciever by the reciever)?
Thanks to all for any help you can suggest. If you need any more information, please let me know.
Mike
