And now we see through the "Casino Royale ships 100,000 copies" battle cry, so they shipped 100k, but only sold about 30K.

Overall, not very impressive number for either format

To be fair, these sales numbers for Casino Royal are from 3/18/07. I'm sure it's sold heavily since then, but unlikely to be anywhere near 100k. I wouldn't be surprised to see 50-60k sales though.

Videoscan doesn't include all retailers, either, and it hasnt been all that clear what percentage of the sales they do capture.

I don't see this as good news for either format. Those numbers seem very insignificant to me. Better for Blu-ray but still insignificant.

This is why its really too early to even think about the format war being over. I mean nether format is even in the black yet. It probably won't until someone puts out a player that is under $150.

Two incompatible formats fighting over a niche market=not good.

Thanks Sony, Toshiba, Microsoft, and anyone else responsible for this. Just know I will NEVER pay for downloadable HD video.

I think this is more reason why the format war should be ended. Like Todd just said, fighting over a niche market doesn't work. If anyone wants these formats to grow, which they definitely have the potential to do, there needs to be only one format so the consumers feel comfortable about investing money in it.

Lowering disc prices would also help even moreso than lowering player costs at this point in time.

Yes, very impressive. With numbers like these, I am surprised either side is willing to put more money into these formats. Almost laughable.

This was a big week with lots of titles so will be interesting to see all the numbers.

From the Article:
"Cumulative sales of HD-DVD are at 708,600 units, while cumulative sales of Blu-ray are 844,000 units."

"HD-DVD now offers 158 titles, Blu-ray 189."

That means the average sale per title is:

Blu-Ray = 4466

HD-DVD = 4485

Pirates CotBP 89.35% 22,178 units
Apocalypto 73.73% 19,294 units
