    Hi All

I am in the market for a new dedicated CD player, i would like it to have 5 disc capability, other than that i am open. i am looking at the Sony SCD-CE775, this unit is priced right and has SACD playback..but i do not want to suffer CD wise...if there is a better player in this price range ($300.00-$450.00)i would consider it...SACD is not a must right now...

Peter, this thread may get more attention on the Home Theater Hardware board. In any event, you can do better than the Sony 'CE775 in terms of redbook CD playback. The 'CE775 is well-regarded as an SACD player for the price, but CD playback is lacking. Here are some five-disc CD changers in your price range that you should consider:

    - Sony CDP-CA70ES: Retails for $300.

    - Sony CDP-CA80ES: Better than the 'CA70ES, but discontinued some months ago. You may still be able to find it at a Sony dealer. Try J&R Music World at 1-800-221-8180.

    - Denon DCM-370: Sells for $250-300.

    - NAD 523: Sells for around $300-350.

    - Marantz CC4000OSE: Sells for around $400 typically, but a dealer occasionally sells it on eBay with a "Buy it Now" price of $250.

The Sony 'CA70ES and 'CA80ES should outperform the 'CE775 with CDs. I owned two 'CA80ES changers once upon a time, and they were quite good for the money. The Denon changer gives a fairly warm sound for the money. I own one as a secondary player.

    Best of luck.
