Just got my Dreamcast system and am looking for some good 4 player party games to play with my buddies on Friday nights. 4 player games I have currently or coming shortly:

    Gauntlet Legends

    NFL 2K

    NFL 2K1

    Virtua Tennis

    NHL 2K2

That is all the sports games I am interested in right now so any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am probably not the person to comment on this thread, not owning a DC myself, but hey, like that'll stop me [IMG].
Two games I consistently hear come up when people discuss fine 4-player action on the Dreamcast are Chu-Chu Rocket and Power Stone 2. The reviews over at IGN seem to think highly of them as well, though I'm sure the DC-owning people here will be good enough to give you more substantial opinions [IMG].

Powerstone is a fairly unique 3D fighter by Capcom - lots of melee weapons, long range attacks, all on the one big screen. It's a LOT of fun.
Fur Fighters is a splitscreen action/fps style game - lots of game variations & over the top weapons, all with cutesy furry animals. It's fun single player too [IMG]

Quake III Arena and Soul Calibur are also cool for parties.

I'll vouch for both Chu Chu Rocket and Fur Fighters. Fur Fighters is basically Quake III with small furry cartoon animals. VERY funny as well as playing really well. The matrix-style paused rotating shot when someone wins of a cute little kitty with a bloomin' great laser cannon in her hand raises your mood so much you don't mind the fact your mate has just thrashed you at it.

Toy Racer is one of the weaker racing games in the world, but its (a) ludicrously cheap and (b) allows four people rather than the normal two of Sega Rally 2 and MSR, which is nice.

Oh, and while Soul Calibur is actually only 2 player games are short enough that leagues/cups/winner stays on play isn't a chore.

NFL BLitz 2001-This is a fun game and the skill level of the players do not matter. The games are almost always close!!

You might want to take a look at Ooga Booga. It's madcap craziness. The only word of warning is that you need to play through the single player to unlock the play modes and maps (kinda like with MSR).

ChuChu rocket is the best game in the universe.

The best is to throw it in without reading the instructions and with no idea what's going on. insane goodness thru and thru

These haven't been mentioned, and I know not everyone will agree with me, but Pen Pen TriIcelon and Rush 2049 do the trick quite nicely for me. Pen Pen is quirky enough to be a fun diversion and a pretty darned-good party game, while the Battle mode is Rush 2049 is frankly as good, and probably better, than any of the other stand-alone combat games on the DC (Star Wars: Demolition, Vigilante 8, etc.). Oh, and it's a pretty good racing game to boot...

I think so. Which mode are you playing?

Puzzle mode and VS mode (or whatever the hell they're called) might as well be different games. The game is freaking hecktic and you have to really keep an eye on what's going on.

Nick, it sounds like you're playing the single player 'puzzle' mode... Go play the action battle mode - where it's realtime, not puzzle based. It gets INCREDIBLY frantic.
