    hi gang,
haven't logged in here for a while. anyway, I'm putting together a bedroom system and am looking to purchase a used receiver (already have a really nice main system - see my web page).
anyway, I've seen some of the recent threads on new budget receivers but since this is a bedroom, I need to keep the cost down and new is not a requirement.
from what I've read so far, it seems like brand-wise that Marantz, H/K or Denon would all be good. I just don't know which models to hunt for on the used market. I'm really looking for something that was known to be a good high bang for the buck receiver when it was new.
    anyway, here are the requirements....
    must have:
    DD 5.1
at least two digital inputs (with at least one coax)
a model no more than 4 years old
decent S-Video switching (for the price range)
original MSRP of no more than $600
DTS (could live without this if aside from this if it is an exceptional receiver otherwise)
    does NOT need to have:
    7.1
nice to have but not required:
    good programable remote
    good tuner (for price range)
    DPL-II
    THX certification
    listening habits:
    satellite TV: 50%
    DVD movies: 25%
    2 channel music: 25%
would appreciate any advice or pointers. [IMG]

Might want to try to find a used Denon 1802 or 1801. Might also want to look at some refurbished HK receivers on www.harmanaudio.com.

I am not sure if this is allowed, but try this ad right here on this forum.
I do not know the seller in question. It just seemed to fit the bill.

Agree with Stephen. I use an H/K 310 for the bedroom but a used Denon 1802 or Marantz 5000 would be great as well.

Stephen: thnaks for the tip on the H/K refurbs. they look like just what the doctor ordered.

Michael, thanks for the link. that's more than I'm looking to spend, though. looking to stay under $350 for now.

thank you to the folks that have contacted me privatly regarding receivers that they want to sell as well as the postings here.
I suppose that I should have been more specific with respect to price range. I'm looking to spend no more than $300 for a used receiver. and frankly, the H/K refurbs are the most attractive option out there at the moment.
already have a Lexicon/Bryston/M&K/Pioneer Elite in the other room so this room is on a strict budget. [IMG]

I'll second the Marantz SR5000. Damn fine receiver, and I have seen quite a few going for just $300. I missed out on picking one up myself at that price.

There is also the Marantz SR4200, which would seem to meet everything you listed, for $300 also, refurb with a warranty.
