My cousin ask me to help him put together a home theater for his new house, his budget is around 35 thousand. After speakers and components, approximately 12 thousand is left for a high def. capable DLP projector and 120 inch screen(motorized preferably).

He prefer to buy it from one of the high end stores around our area, they carry Runco, Marantz, Sharp, Yamaha and Sony.

Need your help on the best model to look at, projector & screen, and anything else I should know.

Thanks in advance.:)

Hmmm, I can't really recommend a specific screen but you should probably budget around $3K for a decent one from a company such as Stewart or Dalite. Anyway, as for projectors (DLP), you can choose from the following HD2 units...

- Sharp XVZ10000
- Marantz VP12S2
- Infocus 7200 (Marantz MT8)
- Seleco SIM2 HT300+
- Yamaha DPX1000
- Runco CL710

Make sure you and your friend do extensive demos first. When you are spending that kind of money, the store should have no problem letting you demo at least half (if not all) of a movie.

As a new user of the VP12-S2 from Marantz - I can testify that this is a great projector. I installed this in my new Home Theater, and last night has a "christening party" for 7 people - all of which left "in awe".

This unofficial survey reinforced that this is a great unit. I would also sugest that you give equal thought to the sound system (mine is Onkyo THX equipment with Snell speakers) - equally important to get a true theater experience.

You can probably find many/most of the above projectors for around us$8K which would leave you $4K for the screen, not that you have to blow the entire budget on it. How are the choices coming along. Have you been able to do any demos?
