This will be used for movies and xbox. Is it better to go for size or picture quality in your opinion?

Which ever category you choose, can you also give me a short list of tv's to audition when I do my shopping?

Get the 32" HDTV

personally the Toshiba 32hfx72 is the best I have seen, it has great grey scale, does wonders for crappy signls liek analog cable and many times split satilite, and is much cheaper than the comparable sony's or Pannys

but you should compare for yourself, the Sony HS series is good as is the Panasonic Tau series.

Personally, I wouldn't sit that close to a 36" 480i TV, as I would end up seeing the individual scan lines and it'd be annoying. Try it yourself, though, YMMV.

I'd go with the 32" HDTV. The clarity will be dramatic and sitting about 8' away should give you a nice view.
