I'd like to add a blu-ray burner/player to my HP Media Center PC (m7457c) but there are no available drive slots. Therefore I believe that I need an external blu-ray burner/player or an internal SATA burner/player that can be converted to an external USB drive. First question: What would you recommend? Second Question: Are there other considerations to installing a blu-ray drive (e.g. software, video card, monitor, etc.)? Thanks for the help!

P.S. Currently running Windows XP Media Center Edition SP3, Pentium D 3.00GHz with 2GB RAM

Even if you had an empty slot it doesn't look like I could get my burner to fit.

I brought my burner from home to my vacation property this week but couldn't get it to fit. There is a slot for a burner/dvd that I removed the cover from, but there is still some plastic sticking out on the frame such that I couldn't install the drive from the front. To install it internally would require removing the power supply first. Reminded me why I prefer to build my own, but got a good deal.

An external burner should work fine and you don't need special software to use the burner.

For HD playback you may need a HDCP compatible video card, and there are only certain programs that allow you to play back on your computer from what I have read on other posts (I don't use mine for playback).

Depending on what you are wanting to burn it could take a while. If you need to rencode video files to blue-ray your processor and memory may take a long time to do this. I would add more memory at a minimum.

I use Adobe Premier Elements for items such as home HD videos, but there are also other shareware if all you want to do is rencode. I might not have the name correct but the name of the program I use is something like Xvid4PSP which works fine.

I use Image Burn for burning which works fine

In the past, I have witnessed some demo DVDs that excerpted different movies resulting in 10 to 15 showpiece scenes. I'd like to do the same with some blu-ray movies, if possible. Therein lies my motive for wanting to install a burner/player. The player hopefully would allow me to rip the movies to my PC and the burner would create the demo blu-ray disc. Is this possible? If so, HOW?
