Need ideas for a flexi to match speaker stands (1 Viewer)

Ok, with the recent purchase of a new AVR 320 I can no longer use the built in space that my apartment has for components. I now need a rack to put all my toys on.

My question for you out there is what would be a good choice of building material if I wanted the rack to match my speaker stands which are built from maple with a few coats of poly on them. I was thinking about birch ply, but I don't know if that would be light enough if I were to just apply some poly to it.

Will birch ply come close to the light color of maple? Any other suggestions?

Birch is light but it won't match the color of maple very closely. You can get maple veneer in 2'x8' sheets and veneer the plywood . Use maple hardwood for edge trim and you'll really match. One good source for veneer is
