I am looking at JBL s38ii or 1 series. I have found the best prices at etronics.com and I need some help finding the lowest prices anyone can find anywhere online. Also, what is the difference between the series 1 and series 2? What are some good speakers in this price range good at playing rock music, but not the really heavy stuff, like Dave Matthews, etc.?

They are excellent speakers for the price IMO.

I paid $245 on Ebay for a used pair of S38 which was the lowest price I could find at that time. I believe they were available for about $290 + shipping at other resellers at that time.

    The differences upon close comparison:

S38II has more tweeter grille protection (which may actually affect sound), a straight through design port, smaller surrounds on midrange. The color is different, and the box dimensions have been altered likely due to port change.

S38 has flared Bose ports that they were forced to change due to patents. The fabric midrange surrounds seem bigger and the midrange/tweeter face plate is more box shaped.

Desptite that the specifications are identical according to JBL, when I listened to them both I just preferred the sound of the original S38. The S38ii started to sound more like the northridge bookshelfs instead of sounding like a Studio.

Might be time for me to get some new bedroom speakers myself.
I just priced these at J&R Music World and they have them for $299.00 with free shipping. I believe they are an authorized dealer also but I haven't been able to confirm that.

    Enjoy,

    Try this: B & H
Shipping is free with them, I found that consumer direct has killing shipping fees. Am I wrong?
