Need help with HDTV (1 Viewer)

Hey everyone, I just got a 51" Panasonic PT-51HX41.
I have recently found out it is im possible to put the tv into 16:9 mode without the digital box.
So in other words, does that mean I cannot watch my Anamorphic dvd's in their best possible with this tv?
I dont understand why I cant put the tv into 16:9 mode for dvd's at least.

You might want to try some looking/searching in the Tv and Projectors Forum for verification, But I do seem to recall that this TV apparently only does the Vertical Anamorphic squeeze with 1080i signals.
In other words, like too many 4x3 sets, it will squeeze Hi-Def but not DVD.
