Hey everyone, I just got a 51" Panasonic PT-51HX41.
I have recently found out it is im possible to put the tv into 16:9 mode without the digital box.
So in other words, does that mean I cannot watch my Anamorphic dvd's in their best possible with this tv?
I dont understand why I cant put the tv into 16:9 mode for dvd's at least.

As I replied before, what would probably work is to use a HTPC to pump in DVD's upscaled to 1080i (or 540p), which should cause your TV to squeeze. You can put together a HTPC for about $500, and it will be better than almost any stand-alone DVD player.
Alternatively, you could probably go into the service mode and force a squeeze. If you're lucky, there will be a seperate memory area for one set of parameters that you could use just for your anamorphic DVD's. For example, if it allows you to adjust 480p without affecting anything, you could just squeeze the 480p mode, and then either forget about nonanamorphic DVD's or watch them with a different input or something.

By the way, what is a HTPC and how would I put one together? Is it something I would have to build??

Hunt around for a Panasonic Yahoo group or something, and maybe they can tell you how to get into the service menu. I already checkedhttp://www.keohihdtv.comClick to subscribe to Philips_HDTV discussion group
