Hi guys. I a bought Denon AVR 788 amplifier this week-end. Incredible amp and everything works fine except for one thing: I can't get the image when using the component inputs.

Here's the setup:
- TV (Cogeco) receiver component output goes in the amp's component input (it's plugged in "VCR" right now)
- TV receiver audio output goes in amp's "VCR" audio input, it's working fine.
- Amp's HDMI output goes into my TV's HDMI input.

I tried selecting the amp's "VCR" input for both sound and image, and only the sound works correctly. I can't get any image on the TV.

I managed to get the PS3 and DVD player (both using the amp's HDMI input) working perfectly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

By "TV (Cogeco) receiver" I mean the cable box... Sorry if wasn't clear enough at first, but English isn't my first language. So my current setup is:

Cable box -----COMPONENT----> AMP ("VRC" input) -----HDMI----> TV

I think you're getting mixed up with the terms "component" and "composite".
There's no such thing as component inputs for a receiver's VCR input. Component inputs are color coded red, blue, and green, and are for video only. The composite input for video is color coded yellow. If this is how you're hooked up, and it sounds like it is, you'll also need to run a yellow composite cable from the "Monitor Out", on the receiver, to the tv's composite input. Your receiver does not upconvert from composite to HDMI.

Thanks for your, but I don't I'm not mixed up in my terms.

The cable receiver outputs video in component (red, blue and green). I am not using composite (yellow) for video, I'm sure of that. The sound uses red and white wires (RCA). And like I said, the sound works perfectly.

Can the receiver upconvert component signal to HDMI? That can be the problem...

Ok...........I read this:
No. The receiver does not upconvert analog to HDMI, and component is analog.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

About the component inputs behind the receiver, it's just that there are 3 different and one of them is labeled "VCR". There is ALSO a composite input labeled "VCR"...

Anyways, thanks a lot for your help. I now know where the problem is and it's gonna take a minute to fix.

Ok, I found a pic of the back of your receiver, and see what you're talking about.
3(VCR)
I've never seen that before. Learn something new every day.

Good luck with your new receiver.
