I put Toy Story 2 in the dvd player this morning for my son and there was nothing happening with the surround speakers.
They work with my cd player and the fm tuner. Just not with my dvd player.
I checked the settings for my receiver and everything seems fine. Anybody have an idea what else it might be?

    Thanks.

maybe it could be the fact that you are not in the right surround mode(ex:could only have pro-logic turned on)

No, it's not that. I had my receiver on DD. I've tried other dvd's in DD and DTS and I can't seem to get the speakers to work.
    Any other suggestions?

How about some details on what kind of equipment you are using. Also, how is your DVD player hooked up to you receiver?

Some receivers or players have a setting for “front speakers only” – center, left and right. Check the menus to se if that has been engaged.
