Need help making jump to hdtv please. (1 Viewer)

Hello, I'm looking at making the jump to hdtv, and have pretty much narrowed my choices to between the panasonic 50" PT50DL54 and the samsung 50" HLR5064W (i believe its the same as the american hlr5067w). Anyone have any experiance with these models? Also i'll be watching the tv from a distance of about 8 feet, is that too close?

One more point: does anyone know how these tv's will display dvd's? Thanks.

I'm a pretty big fan of the LCD RP's. I have installed two of the Panasonic 60" models with fantastic results.

Your choice here is between two different technologies which is interesting. I usually suggest picking the technology first then the display model 2nd.
