ok i have a grand for speakers - these will be 100% theater 5.1/7.1 movies - music is NOT a factor the reciever will be a denon 3802 7.1. im looking for the best speakers for the price for movies. i was thinking:

BTW - that is not including a sub!

    Axiom:

    m22's from the fronts

    VP100 center

    M3's for side surrounds

    Q4 quadropoles for rear.

    --- OR ---

    Klipsch reference setup

    RF3

    RC3

    2x RS3 (surrounds)

any other ideas for ~ a grand?

    ==== Bonus Question ====

should side surrounds (7.1) be bi/di/quad polar designed (defused sound) or direct radiating? i have no idea

    thanks

    RTM

    Rick:

I'm in the same boat as you. Right now I'm leaning towards the Klipsch reference series but I have to do a little more listening. I think they really should be a great match for the 3802.

Before you buy, make sure you listen to all available options on a few different days if possible. Good luck

Go with the Axioms, but that's just my $0.02!

I have to agree with Eric. At the $1K price point, IMO, the ceramic 4.0 package or SM 5.1 package is the way to go.

1k for seven speakers, that's tough but here's what I got for a thou and would buy again:

JBL S310's front, S38's surround's, S center, and for the rear channels, go to Ubid and pick up a pair of Kenwood KV64 "dipole" speakers, new, for $95 shipped. Give the JBL's a spin, I know they are not considered "esoteric" and are mainstream "Best Buy/Circuit City speakers", and because of this, not even considered by many on this site, but are highly underated IMHO. Check out the ratings for these speakers by S&V mag and also "audioreview".com.

JBL's generally can be had for about half of list price on the net.

For a 5 speaker setup I would say 2 pairs Kef q15.2's (around $325/pair) and a Q95.2C for the center, which is also about $325.

    Hope this helps.

Well the only other online retailer of Axiom (besides Axiom directly) is The Audio Shop in Ottawa, Canada at www.audioshop.on.ca
You'll probably get better prices there, plus great customer service in my experience.
