I have a question that i cant seem to answr myself. Through work right now i can get a great deal on a ONKYO TX-DS989 Version 2 receiver $1760.00. I was also thinking of going with seperates but I can not get any type of deals on a seperate, "i would have to pay full retail" So what would be better to get? I would probably only spend like 800.00 dollars for seperates since i have have to keep my onkyo 797 for a preamp.

Which way should i go? Should i take advantage of that 989v2 deal?

For that price I would sell your 797 and jump all over the 989.

Buy yourself a new Rotel RSP 976 (last years model) at a reduced price then find 3 real clean stereo (2 channel) Amps used aprox 150 each, or a new 1066 and some good amps. Don't be afraid of used amps, gen speaking they either work or they don't. Typically amps are very reliable.
Before I spent close to two grand on a Reciever I most certainly would look at Seperates, you will never go back. . .BTW IMO I would pay full retail on seperates before buying a reciever at a discount. . . (exceptions to every rule of course)
