    Friends,
I need help. My brother is building a modest home theater with five surround speakers for under $2,000.
He would like best possible sound but desires small, unobtrusive size.
    Any suggestions...thanks! [IMG]

Your brother may want to give a listen to the new Kef system, the KHT 2005, which has been getting great reviews.
    Hope this helps.[IMG]

If he wants micro sized speakers as opposed to book shelf sized, there is no better I have heard than the Energy Encore System. You can demo it at the Good Guys and buy it online for just shy of a grand.

The new Polk LSi7s might be a good match for that budget, msrp is 808/pair and a center is ~$550 but I've never paid MSRP on speakers [IMG]
So I'd definitly add polks to the list above to be checked out.

nOhr has a 5 speaker package for $850.00. The 4.0 ceramic video package is fantastic deal and sound incredible. I bought the package last year and coupled em with my SVS 20-39CS and am in HT nirvana. The detail and imaging of the nOhrs is a amazing for a speaker in its price range. They ship from Thailand and availability sometimes requires patience but well worth the wait. For less than $2000.00 you could pick up the nOhr's and an SVS sub....just a thought. Check out www.norh.com or the nOrh thread at www.harmonicdiscord.com

Get 5 Klipsch RB-5s (either the original or version II). You should be able to squeek just under 2k. Back them up with a good sub, and you will have an incredible sound system with perfect matching center and rears 'cause they are all the same.
"Small and unobtrusive" is a relative term, and I consider these small. Plus they have a beautiful wood finish on them.

He might also want to look into the Atlantic Technology
T-70 system. It is rather small and puts out a lot of high quality sound for around $675 retail

or the new M&K XENON systems are fantastic, small accurate and classically clean.

If he could go a little bigger the 750 M&Ks are hard to beat.
You did not mention what SUB this system was to be used with. That is an important consideration in matching speakers and subwoofers.

The Lifestyle 28 package is the best cause it's BOSE. Don't believe the player-hater's "BOSE knows music"

Here is a copy of E-mail from my sister after installing the Energy Encore system:

We watched Matrix last night. It was f---ing unbelievable, as Jay would say.

The kids came back from Albany and watched the last half hour with us. Our chests were rattling. Duncan was afraid to go in the living room. It was even better than being at the movies.

During the long, cold, lonely winter, I think we'll be having friends over for dinner and a movie.

Wish you lived closer. Hope you're having a merry.

    Love, Sis

I would stronly recommend a serious look at the ACI Emerald LE.
    http://www.audioc.com/speakers/Emera...ald%20LE1.html
5 will run you $1750 plus shipping. This is with clear or black oak finish. For $75 to $250 more you can add some nice to extremely nice wood finishes.
Look up Brian Bunge on this forum if you want to hear from some one who has them. He has been extremely impressed with them comparing them to some rather expensive bookshelf speakers.
If you have some tools, another option is to build them yourself. Kits are ~$350 for a pair instead of the $699 finished.
