I need to buy a DVD player that can play DVD-A. The max I would pay is around $300.
Dave, have you at least looked at various online retailers' sites and perused their offerings? Why not do this first and then post your question with an emphasis on specific models you've found out about? Then the membership can offer their opinions and experiences.
Better look at the Denon 1600 before you settle.
Dave, I agree with Chris in that the Denon '1600 would be an excellent choice. However, a new unit sells for $450. If you cannot spend that much, consider the new Pioneer DV-563A, which handles both SACD and DVD-Audio and sells for $180. Also look at the Panasonic DVD-S55S single-disc DVD-Audio player for $130 and the Panasonic DVD-F85 DVD-Audio changer for $150. See www.crutchfield.com for more information on all of these players. Also do a search here for more on these players.
I'm quite happy with the Panasonic DVD-F85. It's a 5-disc changer with full DVD-Audio support and it sells for only $149 US.
I will check them out, thanks guys.
