Hey guys, I have a set of old Altec dome tweeters, and crossovers (1500hz) and I'd like to make some bookshelfs or towers with these woofers. looking for tight, accurate sound. They'll actually be used as if they are studio monitors. I have a rack amp to power them. I'd also prefer to do sealed. Can you please plug in the perameters and give me an optimum volume?

Specifications: *Power handling: 65 watts RMS/90 watts max *VCdia: 1-1/2" *Le: 1.07 mH *Impedance: 8 ohms *Re: 7.58 ohms *Frequency range: 40-5,000 Hz *Fs: 52 Hz *SPL: 85 dB 1W/1m *Vas: .76 cu. ft. *Qms: 4.77 *Qes: 1.45 *Qts: 1.11 *Xmax: 3 mm *Dimensions: A: 8", B: 7-5/16", C: 3-7/16".

Thanks a ton!

Getting the correct sized box is only a small part of making an accurate speaker.

If you want to find the optimum sized box, download Unibox.

Yeah... I'm sure I could do a lot more with the crossover... but, these are $10 speakers, and the other components are old... If I was buying ScanSpeak drivers... yeah, I'd do a lot more work. I downloaded Unibox, and got everything plugged it, but still couldn't find a box size. any help?

thanks

I can't find an optimum box for this woofer. I can see why it is $10. With 3mm of excursion, goes well past its mechanical limits with 65w of power even at 100hz. To increase the mechanical power handling, I modeled it in a .5 cf box and it doesn't get much better. The Qtc is 1.3 and that's a boomy sounding woofer.

Ported is totally out of the question. To tame the response curve, you would need to build an open baffle.

The only thing that might explain this is bad T/S data. But that's what you get with cheap drivers.
