Will be getting my HK AVR525 next week, and wanted some sound advice on how to connect things the right way. I will be doing this over the xmas holiday so I want to take the time to do it right.

I have:

55" Mits big screen w/component video & S video jacks galore

Sony DVD player w/component video outputs

Dish network PVR/reciever/RCA video jacks only, optical audio output

HK AVR525 a/v receiver

What I think I should do:

1. component video input of tv to monitor component video output of receiver.

2. Component video out of dvd player to component video in(dvd) of receiver

3. Optical out of dvd player to optical in of receiver

4. Satellite digital recorder/receiver rca video out to video1 rca input jacks

5. Satellite digital recorder/receiver optical out to 2nd optical in on receiver.

Does all this sound ok, or is there a better way?

My opinion on this would be to take all your video and put it directly to the TV.

All the audio of course would go directly to the reciever, and however you want to hook up the audio is perfectly fine.

Now your going to have to switch inputs for all your video sources unfortunatly unless you get a universal remote.

There are some nice universal remotes you can find for like $100-150 or so that will do that automatically. So that's always a nice feature, if you don't want 100 remotes around.
