Im curious to know which DVD player is worth keeping. I own a Panasonic RV-31S and I just bought the Panasonic SC-HT290D HT-in-Box package that includes a 5 disc DVD changer, dolby digital/dts reciever, and speakers. Does anyone know what model dvd player that is, and also which one would you recommend keeping?
Thanks in advance!

I believe the changer that comes with the 290 package is functionaly identical to the DVD-CV51. The CV51 is basically a changer version of the RV-31.
The only thing I don't see is mention of MP3 capability in the unit that comes with the 290, but I wouldn't be surprised if it actually did play them.

It is not the same as the 51. The one that comes with the HT in a box is an elevator type changer. It is similar to last year's DVD-CV40. The DVD-CV51 is a rotary type changer. There is no equivilent stand alone model with an elevator type changer.

Great, thanks for the replies! I will probably stick with the RV31.. i cant wait to see what a 192k mp3 sounds like with the optical connection. i hope the setup is halfway decent (for a newbie!) that comes with the sc-ht290..

Tom, you're getting the systems mixed up. The SC-HT290 is a seperate component system with seperate A/V receiver and 5-disc carousel DVD changer. See it here:

The SC-HT70, 80 and 90 are one-piece systems with elevator changers.

I stand corrected. I looked up the SC-HT90, not the 290. The DVD player in the SC-HT290 is in fact a silver DVD-CV51.
