Need advice on what I need to do! (1 Viewer)

Hey Guys!
Well, I've got the official "over my dead body" look when I suggested purchasing the Onkyo HT-S770. Not that she doesn't want a new system...the speakers were just TOO big to mount on my ceiling which is all I can do. SO...what do I do. I need a good sounding system for a good price (under $500-$700). Even if I have to buy each piece individually...it does not have to a HTIB. Any suggestions? Thanks!

What is your budget? Is it for HT and music?
How about small bookshelf speakers and a subwoofer?

Unfortunately my budget is only about $1000...I know that limits myself but I cannot afford much more at this time. Also, the system will be installed in my family room which flows into the kitchen, which makes for more of a challenge. The ceilings are also 10 feet high and I can only place the speakers on the ceiling. Does this sound impossible?! Thanks for inquiring!
