I am looking to buy a pair of surrounds for about $500/pair.

I had considered Def Tech BP2X's to match my BP10's. I was told that these speakers should be wall mounted. This is not going to happen in my house. Should I consider the Def Tech ProMonitor 200's - even though they're direct radiating? How about other makes ( I was told this does not matter much for surrounds) ?

    Hello,

I have an older pair of Def Tech bipole surrounds and I love them. I do have them wall mounted, but this is not a requirement. You should have them several feet above the listening position, but again, room layout often dictates where the speakers can go. I think you would like the dipole or bipole spearker better for HT...maybe less so for multi-channel music.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

If you have Fry's electronics near you then check out Polk Audio RT800i speakers... they droped the price to 499 from 799... pretty good deal.
