    Hi all,

I've been using a Sony 5.1 audio system (reciever/speaker combo without a DVD/CD) for some time now, but I feel it's about time I step into the big(ger) leagues. I'm looking for reciever suggestions. My basic requirements are:

    1) 5.1 surround (don't really need 6.1 or 7.1)
    2) balanced audio quality throughout the spectrum
    3) a price tag of $500 or less.

Power is not much of a concern for me as I live in an apartment and am limited by my neighbors more than anything. I know this would technically fall under another foum heading, but if anyone has a suggestion on speakers, too, I'd appreciate it.

Go for a Yamaha 5890, I feel it is probably the best out there right now in your price range.

The pre/pro section is really robust. The amps gots lots of muscle.

I'd suggest also looking at the Pioneer 1015. It's very similar, yet lower priced, than their Elite series.
