I have a sony stre845 receiver (dts), sony kv35v tv(without component vidio), and mirage frx7, mirage center, and infinity inwalls (suurounds). I am loooking to purchase my 1st dvd plaver. I do a lot of downloading with mp3 so I would like to utilize this. I have seen toshiba sd2710 for 179.00 and philips dvd704 for 139.00. Should I look eleswhere. I dont need progressive scan but would like an improvement from my 10 year old jvc cd player. Please limit to under 200.00

Thanks

Hi,

I would look at the Panasonic rv31. It does mp3 playing but its feature for it are limited, but has a pretty good audio and video quality. I believe it is around 200.00. Or go with the Pioneer DVD-440 with has been said to be the best mp3 playing dvd player out. Has random play and displays 7 characters of the title of the mp3 among other things. Good video/audio too. I believe its price tag is around 180. Good luck, i would start with these two.

Dan, I'll second the Pioneer DV-440. It's a well-designed player. Good build quality, and it's very small (only 2.25" tall). People say it handles MP3 CDs very well.

And of course there is the Panasonic DVD CV51 which is the 5 disc carousel version of the RV31. I have a CV51 and I like it. Nice picture, good sound. Plays CDRW filled with MP3's.

Dan:

Get the Toshiba 2710. It has 4 level zoom. 99% of all DVD's are widescreen. With the Toshiba, you can watch full 4:3 tv style.

Happy Holidays.
