My fraternity just gave me $500 dollars to get us a subwoofer for our party room which is about 40 feet by 40 feet and I have no idea where to begin. I think that the quality of the sub is less important as the loudness of it. Its going to only be used for DJ's/parties so getting something that will hit really hard is important because we want the entire room shaking. The only problem is don't know what size, brand name, or type to get. I know $500 dollars isn't a whole lot but I figure I should be able to get something that is really loud even if it isn't clean. If you have any suggestions on brands or places to buy or anything please help a fellow brother out.

    $500 spent as follows:

    - $250 on a pro audio amp.
    - $250 on (2)Parts Express 15" IB subs.

Make your baffle in the wall and hook 'em up. Should provide an enormous amount of sound for your budget in the frat house.

Look into some used pro gear. It's all about volume with pro gear.
