Well my subwoofer finally died and I have been given "permission" to buy another one from the little Woman. I would like to spend less than $1000.00 and I'm looking for the best combination of good quality sound for music plus loud decbel levels for Home Theater. Any suggestions on a good loud but musical subwoofer in the $750.00 to $1000.00 range?

Adire Dharman
The Acoustic Visions one can be done 3 ways. They can fully assemble and finish it for you (costs the most). You can get the parts and a flat kit which you then assemble and finish it (costs less). Or you can get just the driver, amp and port kits and build the enclosure yourself getting the materials locally (costs the least).

Any thoughts on which brand might be the best for music? Are any of the brands not as good for music but better for home theater? Is there one that does both things well? I do alot of music listening and I'd really like something that can handle the bass in music really well. Any lots of questions, but it's hard unless someone helps me because I can't really hear any of those at stores. Any first hand knowledge appreciated!

Thank you.

The first three are a little better than the last option I posted.

This is a link to my post in another thread on musical vs home theater subs. Read some of the rest of the thread as well and do some searches as there are several other threads on the same topic.
You can also search the DIY Advanced section for the topic as well. Tom Vodhanel, Dan Wiggins, Mark Seaton, Thomas W, Jon Han(something, last name is escaping me right now), Jack Gilvey are some names you should pay particular attention to in those threads.
I personally have something similar to the Adire Allignment Tempest (mines just 260L instead of 214L and tuned to 16hz with a 6" port instead of 18hz with a pair of 3" ports). I love it and feel it is excellent for both music and hometheater.
You can also phone up Kyle at Acoustic Visions and he will talk through with you what would best suit your performance and budget goals. Besides the set plans he has listed he does costum enclosures as well (shape and finish of your choosing) for pretty much identical prices.

Impeccable timing?? More like intentional timing.:)
Den(with a space)Isle, if that is you I just wanted to make sure you got my thank you private message from a thread a few weeks ago welcoming me to the forum and help in using the quote function. (although I forgot where that thread was and I forgot to write down the steps.)
You know this thread highjinx is almost providing some comic relief for me at work.

Isn't this the same guy who was talking to himself in the other thread? (the locked one?)
Actually, no. I am the one who started that thread that got locked because of an assumption. I have no idea who that den isle guy is.
An easy IP check would show that.
It's actually kind of funny that someone would assume we're the same person for no reason other than I guess we registered today.:)
Oh well...we all make mistakes, including moderators.
