I need a laptop that has a serial port which really cuts out most of the new ones. I found this one that looks ok but what are your thoughts on it?

Pat I'm not sure why I'd be looking at that one...the screen is a lot smaller, has less ram, much slower CPU and costs too much?

My Sony VAIO has a serial port on it. They're not the cheapest, but very good.

There is a USB to serial adapter that will supposedly work with the pronto's from Keyman but I don't know if it would work with Hyperterminal?

If you need a serial port, the new iBooks and PowerBooks don't come with them (though USB -> serial adapters might be available).

If you're looking for a nice widescreen for your DVDs, I'd suggest a Best Buy VPR Matrix 185A5. It has the serial port you're looking for, plus a PowerBook style wide screen for DVDs. It also has the very appealing (and very un-PowerBook) price of $1,299. [IMG]

I have 3 Dells and one is a Inspiron Laptop. I swear by it. Good luck with whatever you buy but be careful because all laptops are no pc equivalent - the inspiron family is. I have the 7500 PIII 450 512 ram - I use to take it to LAN party's and I never had a problem with it. What do you need a serial port for - hyperterminal?

I need the serial port for Pronto's, upgrading the firmware on my Rotel (uses HyperTerminal) and connecting my GPS to it. Apparently the keyspan USB to serial does work for the pronto so that's one possibility but not sure if it will work with HyperTerminal or the GPS?
