I just picked up Technics SA DX1050, top of the line Technics A/V receiver for $239 minus $50 rebate plus shipping (Shoppersadvantage.com). Although I am not through with testing, it seems to be solid, heavy-duty, good performance piece of equipment.
    Cheers,

Forgot to mention, SA DX1050 is the Consumer Report's Best Buy, but I came to this conclusion independently.

Best value for $250. Call JandR and they'll give you that price.
    `nuff said.

I think you can get the Kenwood VR-507 for around $250 online, best bang for the buck! I like it better than the Onkyo 494.
