Guess i missed the "$1500 Canadian" part. Regardless, The Swan's Diva 5.2 would be my choice and would come in well under $1500 Canadian, especially in the less expensive black cherry finish (if The Audio Insiders ship to canada).
The Klipsch RF5 and RF3 are probably available for well under $1500 canadian and are big hitters if you like that sound.
Rocket 550s would be under the mark if AV123 ships to canada.
The other three were right at the $1500 mark US, so I don't think they offer anything cheaper, and wouldn't really expect them to.
Good luck w/ your search and listen to as many different speakers and distinct speaker sounds as you can to find what you like best. Being from up north you already have a disposition to Paradigm and Encore, and they have some great speakers, but don't limit yourself to those "traditionaly canadian" sounds if they leave something to be desired. Find a sound you like then hit us here at the HTF up again and we can probably offer alot of other speakers that have a similar sound that you may not have tried yet.
I love my axiom m60's. I just received them last week, and all I do when I get home is listen to music. Even albums that I had grown bored of now have new life. These speakers sound so clear, but that is only the beginning. The soundstage is huge! I often can't believe that my center and even my surrounds aren't on while I listen to these. I can clearly follow every instrument and the vocals are also so seperate I find myself understanding lyrics where before I couldn't tell what they were.
On the flip side, I haven't heard most of these other suggestions, so take my opinion for what it's worth.
My vote goes to the entire Klipsch Reference series. Even there bookshelves are just awesome. Take a look. If you went just bookshelves i'm sure you could get a full surround package for $1500 or so, unless you just want two channel stereo.
If you can get the Klipsch RF-7's for under $1500 then you are the man because those speakers are just awesome and they require so little power to be driven.
VMPS RM1's would fit that price, I'm pretty sure. And they are very well thought of by many who've had the chance to compare them with some quite high-end speakers. Check the link below for more info.
