Well, I'm nearly done with my AV1+'s. Sweet looking speakers. I've wrapped them in cherry veneer to match my Tempest. I didn't have enough veneer left over to do the top and bottom of the speaker so I have to get more to complete them and apply the finish. Here are a bunch of misc pictures of me building them.
    Enjoy!
    Clamping the cabinet
    Braces
Front and back after MDF assembly
Close up of the baffle corner
Close up of vent and terminal cup recess
    Me doing my thang
    Messy Shop!!
Baffle with drivers and veneer corner shot
Baffle with drivers and veneer front shot
Back with veneer and terminal cup
I'll post more pics when I've applied the finish.

    Darren,

Those look great! I just got me kits in two days ago and will be using cherry veneer on mine as well. I'm probably going to finish them with a red mahogany dye to give that antique cherry look.

    Darren,
Great work! And don't listen to that blasphemer Brian. Only the most despicable sort of heathen like him stains cherry. Nothing but a nice natural oil finish should be used on a beautiful species like cherry.

I agree w/ Ellen... Stain cherry? Let it darken on it's own over time.

Nice shop. No wonder you had those built so quickly. You look like you're setup for anything in there.

Just 1 question - what's the piece of MDF swiss cheese in the background for?

Very impressive Darren! They look wonderful.

Rob, maybe it's left over from his Tempest sub he recently made?

"Only the most despicable sort of heathen like him stains cherry"

I had always assumed that cherry needed that deep burgandy look to it. Now it is a crime to stain maple.

    PS Speakers look tight.

Ahhh...the swiss cheese MDF. That was a failed pannel from my Tempest. I wasn't quite happy with the fit so I made a new one. Just haven't tossed it yet! My shop usually isn't quite that messy but I was in a hurry to get those things fired up!

    Thanks for all the comments!

Isn't a clean shop a sign of not having enough to do? It didn't look that bad actually. YOu should have seen mine in a 10x20 space. I had NO room and had to assemble everything on the table saw and the workbench had either a pile of tools or another project on it.
I have a few panels of mis-aligned mdf too I just can't seem to part with either.
Sure - stain maple to match unstained cherry [IMG] But the customer is always right.

Wow! Nice job! I wish I could be confident enough to take hi-res close-up pics of my projects. Those MDF round-overs look perfect!

Nice looking speakers Darren, can't wait to see the finished product. BTW, are those 5.25" drivers or larger?
