Are there any good near field DIY speaker kits out there? I need to replace my computer speakers and I want to build something instead of buying some Altec Lansing thing. The speakers will be powered by an Onkyo reciever. I would like a musical warm sound with good bass responce down to about 60 to 70 hz in room. Anyone know of anything? The point in this is not to save money but to gain experience. Thanks.

Edit: is there a rule or piece of software that I can use to help me place the speakers if I do decide to build them?

I've never heard of a DIY studio monitor. I'll guess that most studio producers and engineers will just go out and buy speakers and speaker building is more for the audio enthusist. There are quite a few good hifi speaker kits out there however.

Well, I didn't really mean a studio monitor, I just made reference to those because they are designed for near feild listening. That is what I need as I will only be a few feet away from the speaker. Does anyone want to make any suggestions?
