ok, this may seem like a basic question, but i can't seem to locate the answer........

what is the native resolution of a standard widescreen anamorphic dvd in terms of pixels (H x W)?

All DVDs, widescreen or not, anamorphic or not, are encoded within the CCIR 601 standard framework. That means that the pixel matrix is either 576 lines at 25 frames per second, or 480 lines at 30 frames per second, and in either case there are 720 pixels per line.

There are complications, involving resampling to 640 or 853 pixels horizontally to make square pixels, or the figure of 704 pixels which is arrived at by deducting certain margins, but in general the answer is:

480(576)×720
