Anyone heard about Miramax's plans for Naqoyqatsi on DVD? I'm somewhat anxious to complete my collection of the qatsi films.

Koyaanisqatsi is one of the finest films ever made!

Sorry for the rant. Any info on the third film would be appreciated!

MAtt,

I'm right there with you, waiting and wondering. I have even setup my DVD profiler pages for these titles as Qatsi Trilogy: Koyaanisqatsi, so they all group together.

Wonderful films.

Was Naqoyqatsi ever shown in theaters? I don't remember seeing it listed in my area.

I have the other 2 Qatsi films on DVD and would love to have the third as well.

I hear you, Vince!

The film had a limited release in a few markets--not wide by any means.

Philip Glass' best work can be heard in these films--Naqoyqatsi, which also features cello by Yo-Yo Ma is simply outstanding. Koyaanisqatsi is a classic without saying. Powaqqatsi is the weakest score, due to the overuse of the main theme (but it's still superb material).

Odd, Amazon's site does list it for preorder but they list the release date as January 1, 2010.

Maybe it was announced and then delayed.

If this was canceled, I will not be happy.   Can we confirm this?

Why would Buena Vista do this? Simply because it won't make enough money? Miramax's line of films targets a rather limited demographic already, compared to other studios. I understand they don't call it show business for nothing, but this is absurd. The film not only has a cult following, but it features music from two of today's most prominent classical musicians: Glass and Ma. Weren't MGM's qatsi releases a success, all things considered?

If BV drops (or has dropped) the ball, let's hope someone else picks it up. Can anyone say CRITERION?

I can't wait to finally see this, I've been listening to the Philip Glass score for weeks. I agree that some of Glass's best stuff is in these Godfrey Reggio films.

I hope that June date is correct. If this got cancelled, I'd be extremely out of balance.

Retail listing?

I've tried to find this title on several sites with no luck.

Is there anyway to confirm if this title will or will not be released?

Chris, sounds like that listing isn't updated, because 6/17 was the originally announced date. With that date 5 weeks away, and no US e-tailers listing it for order, I'd say it is definitely NOT coming out that day.

I get a listing every week straight from a distributor (because we buy over 100 titles a month).

it is possible that it hasn't been cancelled YET.

quite often official listings do not appear until 2-3 weeks before street date (in my experience).

too much product!

and yes, I will be buying this one!

and my supplier does have it listed at retail, lol. :emoji_thumbsup:

I can only find two retailers offering the title, which is ominous, because by this stage I'd expect a lot more if the DVD really is going to be offered in a month's time.

Since this was due next week I took a look around to see if it would show up or not. Not.

However, I checked qatsi.com's message board and a board moderator states that it's scheduled for Oct 14 2003, according to "most recent communication with Miramax."

So, hopefully it will soon actually see the light of day.
