I guess the less said the better. a film to be rated 1/5 overall must have been a disaster!

As has been explained several times on this forum, due to some abnormalities we're experiencing with the publishing software, I have to build the review and post it in pieces in order to be able to post it at all, and so it's never a wise thing to comment on what you see until the entire review shows up. Thanks for understanding.

Great review, Matt. Thank you. I’ve not seen the film in aeons, and can’t wait to re-visit. Richard Brooks was one of the most literate writer/directors, and it was after Mystery Street that he got his director’s chair. Before Mystery Street, he penned screenplays Key Largo, Brute Force, Crossfire, and The Killers. As a director, he created the re-make of an extremely difficult Conrad novel, Lord Jim. With your words in place, I don’t need to review this one. Keep those reviews coming please!

Great review Matt. Almost feel as if I were watching the film from reading your words. I have this on a DVD Noir set and always liked it, but wished it were possible to see John Alton's lighting in better resolution. Well, now is my chance. Thanks for reminding me this is available. Elsa Lancaster certainly perks up the proceedings, and seems to have inspired Mr. Alton, as his shadows become more grandiloquent and labyrinthine wherever she's around.
