On the other hand, when is Universal going to dig out THIS ISLAND EARTH again?? The old transfer looked TERRIBLE and the MST3k print was ten times better!I have to disagree, personally. I own both discs, and can only tell a slight difference between the two. "This Island Earth" transfer was insanely crisp, and you can't honestly expect the Technicolor hues to hold up. I take the good with the bad. Sharper image, a little grain. It adds to the B movie appeal.
That said, "This Island Earth" is indeed one of my all time favorite films.
I am so glad I saw it in a theater (The Tivoli)I saw it there on opening night, too!!! What an awesome theater!
I sat in the front row, far right... just like Mike & the 'bots.
Many of the filmmaker(s) behind the films MST3K has had fun with over the years love the satire and have a great sense of humor about it....if they can then why can't others?
It's fine if you can respect both films, but my issue are at public screenings, forums, et al. where fans of the show have nothing but disrespectful things to say about THIS ISLAND EARTH.
I've had more than one public screening of TIE ruined by people talking in the theater. Come to think of it, however... MOST of my experiences in theaters in the last five years have been ruined by theater talkers. I guess it's just this generation.

If Universal ever gets on top of things and puts out a substantial Science Fiction set, this one is SO worthy of a new transfer.
