There's a horizontal line near the bottom of my screen, it fluctuates up and down, and sometimes the screen will start to shrink, closing in on itslef, until it's just a single horizontal line of the broadcast. These problems just started happening yesterday for no apparent reason. It happens at random times, and seems to be pretty constant now. It goes away for a little bit if I smack the tv. I have a 28" JVC from the early 90's. Any ideas? Thanks.

Probably solder connections in the vertical output circuit deteriorating. If you get it fixed now it will probably be a minor repair (from a reasonable servicer). If you let it go then components may start shorting out, turning it into a major repair. If that's the only problem and the picture is still good then I would suggest getting it fixed if you can get it done under $50-$75. Repair costs vary a lot , especially with geographic location, so I can only suggest general cost guidelines.
