Greetings DIY Home Theater Members,
I stumbled upon this great place when a link was
posted at remotecentral.com (another great place)
and I was so releived to have found what apears to
be the largest gathering of HT Nuts.
I plan on spending the majority of my time here on
this site, in this particular forum because I love
to do things myself and I also love to learn and
listen to what others have done. I am not a person
with unlimited funding and my HT system was not a
multi million dollar setup. And I am one of those
who beleive it does not have to cost a million bux
to sound like a million bux!
I am glad to be aboard and I hope to learn, listen and
share information with everyone.
While I am here I want to post my personal web page
address. I began working on the pages last night and
they are not 100% complete as of yet. Although they
are not finished, I do have a decent amount of info
up right now. Check it out and let me know your honest
opinions.
Thanks
Sincerely
Brett DiMichele

Nice to have you abaord! We have a lot of DIYers that regularly post and it's always nice to have some more. Your link screwed up due to a glitch with the way our software parses URLs so I changed it.
Nice page. I love the speaker cable solution!

Phil,
Thank you for fixing the link and thanks for the compliments
they mean a lot to me. I am glad you like my awnser to cable
runs. I would have liked to run them through the walls all
the way. But this house has the tops of the rafters capped
off (I discovered this when I got up in the attic) and
access to the walls turned out to be too difficult. The Cl2
in Navaho is nearly invisable agaist the wall so I figured
hey why not! :)

Kyle,
Thank you for the warm welcome. I have been reading through
the posts on this forum for the past couple days and I have
to say that there are some people on here who I think should
be in Mensa! Some very sharp tacks on this forum! :)
The bulk of my knowledge is car's I am a car fanatic and I
also love car audio too. The problem is I have far too many
hobbies (or places to spend money!)
Thanks for the compliments on the page! Yeah it was one
LOOOOONG day :)

Neil,
I am glad to be aboard, to learn, listen and share all that
I can. A little about me...
25 Years of age
Certified Car Fanatic ( owner of a 68 Corvette Coupe and a
2000 Corvette Coupe both of which I show at car shows)
I am an audio nut.. Home or car.. I love technology and
gadgets! I work in the IT field for a power generation and
supply company that serves PA,VW,VA,MA and some of NJ and
we are growing.
When it comes to movies my tastes are almost as eclectic as
my music choices. I love most everything, and especialy any
movie with great visuals and super audio :) I have seen to
date close to 200 DVD's and I have the perfect setup. My
best friend buys the DVD's and I rent them for free for
extended periods of time :)
Future expectations? Ohh that's a tough question! First I
need to get a sub... I had one and I sold it (before I got
the Onk 787) and now I need one again.. I also need to get
the Onkyo 2 channel Pre/Pro amp and 2 more bookshelf's to
use as "back L/R" surround. I would like to take the mids
and highs out of my Performance Series Center Channel and
change them over to Hi-Res Series Mids/Highs. I already
have a price quote from Acoustic Research, they will sell
me the Mids for $49.00 each and $76.00 each for the tweeter
when I go that route I am also going to get the Hi-Res
Binding posts and crossover that way I can Bi-Wire the
Center Channel.
Ultimate Expectations? Well a 38'L x 18' Wide room with a
tiered floor and a 6 row seating configuration with a 100'
screen would be my dream... And then I woke up.. I am doing
HT on a modest budget (right around 5K right now) I don't
have the means to drop 20-40K without blinking an eye, nor
do I have the room for such a setup. I am very pleased with
what I have now and when I actualy get all of the THX
channels set up and installed then I will be able to
ease up on equipment purchases. (I think???) :)
Again thanks to all and glad to be aboard!

Hey fellas,
I just wanted to let you know that I updated my images page
so if you go to the web site and load the image page be sure
to hit refresh and you can see more pictures of how I ran
the cables and the mess behind the receiver. I also changed
the font color to white. I am going to stick with white on
the font as it's easier to read than teal. I am also going
to add a table to constrain the paragraph layouts but I am
not in the mood to do that right now :)
Neil,
I forgot to awnser your question about what all gear I am
using. Follow the link in my first post to my web site. It
lists all of my components model #'s Brands Etc and lots of
pictures!

Brett,
As the others have stated, this place is an awesome source for any questions you have regarding home theater, and practically anything else. Just make sure to post in the applicable Forum.
The members of HTF are also extremely nice and will respond to even the stupidest questions!

Jeff,
Thank you for the warm welcome. I am one who beleives that
the only "stupid" question is the one that was never asked.
You can not learn if you do not ask. I come into the home
theater world with a strong working knowledge of acoustics
and wiring and enclosure design compliments of car audio. I
have been a car audio buff since I could drive and I was not
and I am not one who is into SPL (Speaker Pressure Levels)
Don't get me wrong, Low Fequency is a key component to the
over all sound of any system. But too many young people
focus solely on SPL and totaly forget about what makes music
fun. And that is Sound Quality. What good is 150 Decibels of
Low Frequency when you have horrible response in the 100 to
24Khz range.. Boom Boom Boom without mids/highs is futile.
I am lovin this forum already! :)

Neil,
I think I am just going to buy a sub this time around.
I have made many car audio sub boxes in the past so
making one is not the problem. I have too many projects
going on in my garage right now to even think about starting
another :)
I don't need that much sub anyway, I am looking at AR's
Hi-Res Series Subs.

Brett,
Welcome aboard! Glad to have you here. I didn't respond to you prior to this because I just got back from the HTF Los Angeles Meet. With the airline troubles I decided to drive in my 1995 Impala SS! 7000 miles later I'm glad I did this. As a car nut, you should know what I'm talking about.

As to subs, if you don't want to do it yourself, be sure to look into the SVS subs that are talked about a lot on these pages. Great bang for the buck.
You might want to check out my HT pages for some additional comments.

Rob,
Thanks for the warm welcome. I am pleased to be here and I
am enjoying myself imensely already!
I SO know what you mean about the drive.. And in a 95 LT1
Impalla SS it's even that much more of a blast.. Such a
shame that GM decided to replace your "real" Impalla with
this new FWD V6 joke.. What was GM thinking?
I love those Imp SS's :)
I have read a lot about SVS subs so far, I still haven't
made up my mind yet as to what I am going with. I won't
be adding a sub real soon as my last spending spree on the
Ok 787 and the AR9's have left me temporarily short changed
:)
Right now I am focusing on getting all my wiring finished
up and then getting a new center channel (again) and then
comes the sub and then comes the Onk Pre/Pro 2Ch amp and
2 more surrounds and then I think I will be done????? :)

Brett,
The "General" often doesn't think. The death of the real Impala SS and the Buick Grand National are two such examples of their brain freezes. Let's hope the engineer they "stole" from Chrysler (the young man who designed the PT cruiser) brings more excitement to GM.
Anyway, my SS is a keeper and it is going to be treated in a manner that it has earned. I'm planning on less than 1000 miles a year (unless I do something "crazy" again) until it reaches the "classic" age of 19 in about a dozen years. Then I'll restore it to original condition with all the original parts I took off when I added the Borla Catback exhaust and the K&N air breathing equipment. This makes it more valuable as a "classic." Let's hope I live so long (I'm sneaking up on 60 next year.)
We now return you to our regular programming....
